Ellis has represented clients in state and federal court as well as the South Carolina Court of Appeals in matters concerning wrongful death, catastrophic personal injury, premises liability, insurance bad-faith, medical malpractice, and civil rights violations.
Ellis has worked on multiple national, state, and local political campaigns. He is a contributing author and a founding member of the Charles Rogers Scholarship at Fork Union Military Academy; the Susan Ellis Roberts Scholarship in Wake County, North Carolina; and the Dr. Douglas Ashley Scholarship at the College of Charleston. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Wade Edwards Learning Lab in North Carolina and is a former member of the College of Charleston Alumni Board.
Ellis is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and the Charleston County Bar Association. He and his wife Mary – along with their sons James, Bert and Jack and their dog Birdie – live in Charleston, South Carolina.
